I find it interesting that the Armani phone comes with a built-in rape alarm that is definitely a plus point in my book. It can be triggered via jeans or heavy material, so no worries if you need to access it even when your fashionable handset is lying inside your LV leather bag.
All you need to do is pre-program the number of your five closest relatives and trusted friends under a special contact group, and whenever you feel threatened, just press the volume button four times to kickstart the safety feature that will send out SOS text messages to those aforementioned numbers. Not only that, the integrated GPS tracking system will activate immediately so that you can be easily tracked down. Why not make this feature standard across all handsets?

This surely makes a good function, but wouldn’t it be better if the messages were sent directly to police? And wouldn’t it be better if the message contained positioning information? It’s not really standard for phones to have GPS systems built in, so the police is unlikely equipped to connect to any phone and fetch information other than what GSM aerials they’re connected to.
@2 emgee:
Two scenarios:
Scenario A-
My wife does the rape alarm, signals get sent to the cops, cops show up an hour later and god only knows what happens.
Scenario B-
My wife does the rape alarm, signals get sent to me and my family members, we all show up VERY soon armed with shotguns, rifles, pistols, knives, and cattle prods. Oh, and rubber bands for castration.
It also may be a logistical problem sending the messages to the nearest police force.

That’s going to a great product and as the article states, why don’t they make it standard across all phones. This may be a turning point for all phones and this may become an anti-crime device. If you’re about to get into a fight, just hit the button four times and people will be swarming the area. So go armani for creating a sleekish phone that goes with the dress.

This is brilliant. I think that all phones should come with this kind of thing built in. It would certainly set me more at ease knowing my girlfriend has a way of contacting me and all of those who love her instantly. Would I prefer her to contact me or the police? Well, actually, probably me and her loved ones instead of the police. Firstly, the police would probably take too long to get there. Secondly, who knows if we can even trust them? I’ll call the police while I’m on my way there.
Fancy phone… As it’s price ;D Very interesting!
God that’s stupid. Among the many problems with this plan, SMS messages have no delivery guarantees. While they *usually* show up immediately, the carriers don’t guarantee that. It is not uncommon for them to take a rather long time to be delivered.
In terms of looks, I love it! In terms of features, it’s amazing! But one question though, how about if you can no longer press the volume button? Will the rape alarm still be to your advantage?
